Hendry retirement! Gutted.

Ronnie wins the first three frames today looking at the top of his game.

Neil fouls with his waistcoat.

WOW. Did you notice the 3rd red and the subsequent black. 2 great back cuts. Impressive.

Yes. What a break.

Last night Stephen Hendry retired. He played in 27 consecutive World Championships, seven of which he won. There may never be a better match player and most agree that he changed the way the game was played.

The O'Sullivan/Robertson session finished early today and they showed a half hour tribute to Hendry's career and retirement. Hazel Irvine said when she introduced "The King of the Crucible" to the crowd before air time today, she'd never seen 900 people leap to their feet so quickly. I think Stephen was the only one in the building who didn't get misty. I know I did.

I don't know how the BBC does it, but they put together such beautiful films. Last year's "Whispering" Ted Lowe tribute was equally well done and just as tear-jerking.

In watching the 147 of Hendry's I noticed all the people watching. How exhilarating to see people of all ages so entranced by his play.

Do you play Mike? Even though I've got tons of opportunity to play in Sault Ste Marie Ontario (10 minute ride for me) I haven't played in 30+ years. Hoping to bring a snooker playing buddy of mine to Msp around Labor Day.

Dang, 10 minutes and you don't play? Shame.

There are 2 twelve footers in town, but neither is perfect for snooker. I hear Ames, IA has a decent one and I'm hoping to make it to Mankato soon to play. Fargo has one, but the cloth is too speedy for proper snooker.

Oh, Ronnie vs Neil coming up in ten minutes. Get ready for a roller coaster ride!

Down to the Semi-Finals. Four players remaining and 5 days left in the tournament.

Next year, I think we should form a little wagering corporation and see if we can make a few quid.

I think yesterday and today stream 5 has been working nicely. Bonus- It's the BBC feed, not EuroSport.

http://www.actiweb.es/freddy49sports/canal_5.html

I highly recommend checking out the match at 1 p.m. Minnesota time. Ronnie O'Sullivan will be playing Matthew Stevens.

Cheers,
Mike Fieldhammer

Ali Carter just finished the first session today. He leads 5-3 in the best of 33 frame semi-final. Rough play from both Carter and Stephen Maguire. This was the first match this tournament to be played in The Crucible on a one table set up. What a different look to the venue. Very exciting stuff!
