Biggest Snooker Event of the Year

Postby Mike Fieldhammer on Sat Apr 21, 2012 11:14 am

The World Championships is underway. And what a start it has been. Stephen Hendry (43 years old) just made his 11th Maximum Break of 147.

This event is so thrilling. I just saw Mark Allen lose a crazy frame to Cao Yupeng. I'll see if I can post the video or a link to it.

In the meantime, here's the legend getting his 11th Maximum!

The 147 was great stuff. Wished snooker enjoyed more popularity in US and locally. Might drive down to The Corner Pocket in Ames this weekend for a "snooker fix".

Oh man, I too should drive to Ames but that would mean I'd miss some great matches.

Today in their first frame, Ronnie and Peter Ebdon had a black ball respot which went 21 shots before Ronnie potted the black. I think there has been three top 16 seeds upset so far in the first round.

I'm so glad Barry Hearn hasn't messed with the format of this awesome event. Here's the match schedule for the next two weeks.

Guide to watching the Snooker World Championship from Minnesota:

Here's the schedule to the matches. Remember we're UTC minus 6 hours.

http://www.worldsnooker.com/page/NewsAr ... 52,00.html

Here is the link to real time scoring so you can determine if there is a live stream. Also check the results tab and the players tab for results and current odds. As of now, Judd Trump is the fav at 10/3. Robertson and O'Sullivan at 4/1, Higgins at 7/1 and Gilbert at 250/1.

The streams are here, but sometimes require some work to chase them down. The second round still has 2 table action, so check the chat and the schedule to help you find the match you'd like to see. Freddy does a great job with his site.

The snooker is incredible. Just saw Ronnie finish off Williams. He'll be playing Neil Robertson in the quarterfinals.

Ronnie came from down 1-3 vs two time champ Mark Williams to win 9 frames on the trot. He closed him out today 13-6. John Parrott said that he's not sure he's ever seen such high level play in a particular 6 frame stretch by Ronnie.

I'm telling you, when he's on top of his game all the other pro's prick up their ears and worship his talents. Even Hendry admitted that he's learned a couple of shots from O'Sullivan.

Yes sir. Ronnie made a few mistakes and should have ended their first of three sessions with a score of 4-4. Neil is looking very sharp. Weird thing is that during Ronnie's match yesterday, he looked so good the odds makers changed the line and made him favourite to win the tournament. Up until then, Neil Robertson had been the lowest odds. These two are squaring off again tomorrow morning and afternoon in the two final sessions of the best of 25 frame quarterfinals.
