All were welcome to play and they did. Scotch teams saw the likes of former touring professional Jimmy Wetch and multiple masters champ Mario Parayno as a team. With the field dwindled to the final 12 players, still undefeated are Iowa\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s finest Jerrod Frideres and Dustin Gunia versus Minnesota\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bad boys Beau Runningen and Tony Hilla.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_409\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-409\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-409\" title=\"Tony Hilla and Jesse Engel\" src=\"http:\/\/www.shootingstarclassic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/tony_hilla_and_jesse_engel-500x338.jpg\" alt=\"Tony Hilla and Jesse Engel\" width=\"500\" height=\"338\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-409\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tony Hilla and Jesse Engel<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The 128-player Men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Open field was underway by noon on Saturday and saw a 12 player waitlist, most of who either got in or played in the Masters. Some notable players were Midwest young gun Chase Plumley, Chicago\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Shannon Schroeder fighting his way back from the B-side, and Canadian rock stars Andrew Thomas, Joe Kluka, and Blair Lawson. Taking advantage of the Labor Day long weekend, the Men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Open division will wrap up Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>In the Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Open, Midwest BCA women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s open champ Veronica Lyon from Wisconsin is still undefeated, along with Longoni Cue\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Kara Ceschini of Calgary, Alberta, and Fargo\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s fav Sam Matuska. Of the 44 Men\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Masters players, only 13 remain. 2008 BCA 9-Ball Challenge runner-up Demetrius Jelatis remains East, awaiting the winner of Broadway Billiards\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Marc Oelslager and Jerrod Spence from Winnipeg. Coming from the West are 3-cushion phenom \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Fast Freddy\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Lamers, Lee Heuwagen, and Josh Burbul who will face Wetch.
